ABOUT US

T1D Racers is a Non-profit Organization that was recently started for children and young adults living with Type 1 Diabetes and other medical challenges, to have the opportunity to participate and experience high-level competitive Go Kart racing.

The team was inspired by Collin who was diagnosed in 2015 at the age of 7 with Type 1 Diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes is a chronic autoimmune condition that affects the pancreas and the production of insulin. Type 1 Diabetes is managed with multiple finger sticks, continuous glucose monitoring, insulin injections, and/or insulin pumps. It is a constant struggle to keep blood sugars within target ranges and avoid dangerous highs and lows which can have detrimental long and short-term effects.

Collin's passion for racing and Go Karts came long before his diagnosis. He started out with his first electric recreational Go Kart when he was 5 years old and progressed to indoor karting as soon as he was tall enough to reach the pedals! He was recognized for having natural skills on the track and was looking to grow further into the world of competitive Go Kart racing. He began high-level competitive outdoor karting and continued to improve his skills with the help of his coaches and team.

Collin has inspired other T1D children to test out the track and has since been part of organizing a Go Kart team, T1D Racers! The team consists of children with T1D as well as other medical challenges. T1D Racers now runs a full national schedule as well as a full local schedule for our drivers of all skill levels!
